One-Pfoot Replacement Screws for Old Pflueger Medalist

“The Old Screws”

One of the most asked for items over the years has been the small oval head 3-48 screws that were so often used in the building of the early Medalists. We had these stainless screws cold form threaded—which makes for a stronger screw—and then brought into our shop to shape the oval heads and slot them. A final buffing and polishing makes this the perfect replacement for all those older Medalist reels.

"The New Screws"

Here’s the oval slotted head screw that most Medalist owners are familiar with. This highly polished stainless screw will enable you to resurrect those discarded, idle, Medalist reels.

We ask that our customers please take a few minutes to read this text and carefully examine the accompanying pictures at right before ordering replacement screws. You may get a better idea of the screws that you need for your reel by taking one out of your reel and comparing it to the diagram.

Another Pfine Tuning Tip

"Along the way I learned something that you no doubt already know, but thought I'd pass along the experience. As I installed the sculpted pillars and cinched everything down, one of the reels was binding a bit when wound - obviously something was not lined up right. So, it dawned on me that it probably makes sense to follow a logical pattern when tightening these screws, so that the two sides have a chance to line up correctly. My approach was to loosen up all 5 screws on each side, and then I started with a light snugging of the two reel foot screws on each side, and the one directly above it on the frame (12 o'clock position), figuring that this triangle would establish the basic alignment. Then snugged the two screws on each side at the horizontal positions (3 and 9 o'clock), followed by a round of final tightening of everything, in the same sequence. That seemed to do the trick. So, perhaps that's a Pfine Tuning tip that may help some customers get your parts properly installed."
